Mental Health Month

Today marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month, the 65th annual celebration of that time.

This year’s theme is B4Stage4 and will focus on how people can address their mental health early, rather than at “Stage 4” – when symptoms are more severe, and recovery a longer process.

Be sure to watch our Moodswingers blog for pertinent articles!

And if you haven’t been attending our support groups, perhaps it is time that you started!

Statement on Feedback

The Chapter Board considered the issue of feedback. The Board reminds members that feedback should be aimed at helping the person who has just shared. This means no questions about how they liked a certain medication, no asking if they recommend their psychiatrist/therapist, no questions about the nature of their condition, no general questions about the illness and its treatment when it is not your turn to share, and no comments or questions that direct attention away from the problems of the sharer and towards those of the questioner.

We remind you that you may ask whatever questions you want of whoever you want after the meeting or during the week between meetings. Don’t forget that the Chapter has a library with many books that you may consult.

If the facilitator interrupts you to bring the focus back to the person who just shared, please cooperate. Keep the meeting focused on support.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

Web site upgrades!

The web site has been upgraded with some new features. First, we have a calendar listing the days and times of special events as well as the days and times of our support groups. Look for it beneath the photo above.

Second, we have a mailing list. This will notify you of interesting articles and events of each month. You can sign up for it on the upper right just below the photograph.
